Mobica, a provider of software services to the mobile and consumer electronics industry, has announced a partnership with Imagination Technologies, a supplier of multimedia system-on-chip intellectual property (SoC IP). The two companies will work together to provide a range of engineering services for customized and optimized graphics and video solutions based on the POWERVR portfolio of technologies to mobile, embedded device, and chipset manufacturers.

The partnership builds on a relationship between the two companies, which have delivered a series of POWERVR projects together. Mobica has supported Imagination's customers and partners by providing embedded multimedia expertise through the development and integration of POWERVR graphics drivers, driver conformance, and video decoder optimization.

Mobile device and silicon manufacturers can benefit from Imagination Technologies’ graphics and video IP, together with Mobica's POWERVR technology specialists and ability to scale up dedicated teams using its UK and Polish R&D centers. POWERVR customers can benefit from an end-to-end customized integration service, from project definition to full-scale customization, integration and delivery.

"The next generation of handsets and mobile operating systems will increasingly be based on innovative 3D graphical user experiences. Optimization of the user experience is heavily dependent on key hardware components. Mobica and Imagination Technologies work together to develop, integrate and deploy software enablers for this hardware. We will continue to provide users with the experience they demand and developers with the APIs required to create this experience," says Jim Carroll, Mobica's director of engineering.
