NextComputing (Nashua, NH) announced the development of a new midplane option on its NextDimension Pro, Pro HD Evo and Evo HD, and Vigor Pro SD computer models. The option provides two slots that support legacy 32-bit 5V PCI as well as current PCI-X and PCI Express 16x cards.
NextComputing designed the midplane as a solution for end-users who still need to use legacy 5V PCI cards but are looking to upgrade their computers. NextComputing's new midplane option allows these cards to co-exist with current I-O, storage, and processing, thereby extending the associated application's useful life. Virtually all manufacturers have discontinued supporting the 5V technology, leaving users to either hang on to older computers just to support the cards, or abandon their 5V cards in order to make other system upgrades.
