Ocular has announced its largest projected capacitive (PCAP) touch panel offering to the market.

multi-touch panel

The newest addition to Ocular's Crystal Touch line of PCAP touch panels measures 15.6-in. diagonally and has an outline of 356 by 223 mm along its perimeter. It supports a multi-touch interface with as many as 16 simultaneous touches.

"Projected capacitive touch panels have rapidly become the standard for a durable, engaging user interface. Now that we're expanding the viewing and touch surface area, we've dramatically extended the types of systems that could capitalize on such an interface," says Phil Spivey, president and CEO of Ocular. "In particular, we believe this will drive projected capacitive touch displays into even more applications. We have learned through customer feedback that people prefer this type of user interface. Now, increased size along with the rugged durability of these displays, make them a natural fit for applications where environmental conditions can be challenging and multiple people need to collaborate or run separate actions in parallel."

The company sways the panel is resistant to scratching, harsh chemicals and other contaminants. It operates over an industrial temperature range from -30 ° to 70 ° C. It has a 1.6 mm profile.

The 15.6-in. Crystal Touch PCAP is available in sample quantities and will be available for volume shipments in June 2011. Minimum volume pricing starts at $109 (US) per unit.
