Coming from rapid manufacturing and prototyping specialist, Ogle Models (Letchworth, UK) is a new flame retardant plastic added to the range of materials it offers. Produced by EOS for use in its laser-sintering machines, the plastic powder is designated PA 2210 FR. Ogle operates three EOS machines, two of which were purchased in June 2008 as part of a £1 million investment.

Ogle has already it has created two sets of parts for the cabin and fuel tank of an aircraft in quantities ranging from 50- to 200-off. Especially designed to meet the flammability, smoke and toxicity standards for the civil aerospace industry, the polyamide PA 2210 FR has been tested by aircraft manufacturers like Boeing, Dassault, Embraer and others.

Ogle has also been producing a fire retardant, fiber optic tray for communications towers using stereolithography and vacuum casting, for the telecommunications industry. To achieve a fire retardant rating of UL94 V-O, a minimum 2 mm wall thickness is required.
