OpenBOM, a provider of cloud-native PDM and PLM software for engineering and manufacturing teams, has launched OpenBOM CAD File Agent for SOLIDWORKS.
CAD File Agent is the first application in the company’s Product Memory Platform vision, bringing AI-powered file capture, revision control, and connected product context to engineering teams that use SOLIDWORKS as their primary design environment, according to OpenBOM.
OpenBOM CAD File Agent moves beyond the file vault model. It captures SOLIDWORKS files with full references and dependencies, organizes design information into structured context, and preserves a navigable history of how a product evolved.
Key capabilities include:
This launch marks a new architectural direction for OpenBOM. The company is building toward what it calls Product Memory — a data foundation that preserves the evolving memory of a product over time, connecting files, BOMs, revisions, decisions, and all related activity into a living context that people and intelligent agents can use.
“Traditional systems store approved records, but they lose the context of how the work actually happened,” says Oleg Shilovitsky, CEO and co-founder of OpenBOM. “Product Memory is about preserving that context. CAD File Agent is where that journey begins.”
