Cloud graphics company OTOY Inc. has released the latest version of its real-time rendering software, OctaneRender. Version 2.1 was previewed at the NVIDIA GPU Technology Conference and 2014 NAB show.

The new version incorporates several main improvements as well as community-requested features. Some of the updates are:

  • Render pass output for lighting layers: Enables greater fine-tuning of lighting settings. This feature also allows users to produce images for each render past that constitutes an image such as reflections, refractions, normal, direct and indirect lighting.
  • Undo system: Improves workflow during scene setup, letting users backtrack to an earlier state.
  • Improved sampling: Optimizes noise reduction for Direct Lighting and Path Tracing kernels with a new "coherent mode," rendering scenes 30% faster.
  • Scriptable node graph SDK (software development kit): Removes barriers within OctaneRender for developers. Using LUA-based scripting, the application has uses beyond graphics, such as incorporating physics engines such as Pixelux's Digital Molecular Matter.
Version 2.1 can be downloaded now with updated plug-ins becoming available.
