Quantapoint (Pittsburgh, PA), provider of laser scanning technology and services that help companies achieve Zero-Defect Projects, released PRISM 3D 8.0, software that puts reality on your desktop by enabling facilities digitized using laser scanning to be accessed as high-definition Laser Models and photorealistic laser images.

A few of the new capabilities in PRISM 3D that are based on user feedback to better support the design and engineering lifecycle include improved memory management so that more Laser Models may be loaded; demolition groups may be colored to visually identify demolition work packages for construction teams; zoom window to focus in on specific areas of a Laser Model; and users can "walk" through the Digitized Facility from Laser Image to Laser Image.

By using PRISM 3D to put reality on the desktop, clients have typically been able to reduce field trips by 90 percent (by doing virtual site visits), remodeling time by 50 percent (by using the Digitized Facility instead of remodeling or as a basis to remodel) and decrease design time by 50 percent (by accessing more complete information).

Quantapoint Laser Images are photorealistic, panoramic images of laser scans from individual laser scanner locations ("scanner-centric"). Because Laser Images are 360-degree images, they may be panned and zoomed like virtual reality programs to view the surrounding area. Laser Images are ideal for "virtual" site visits due to their high resolution.
