ROMER Inc. Announces INFINITE 2.0 Series Measuring Arm

ROMER Inc., a Hexagon Metrology company (Wixom, MI), unveiled its all-new INFINITE 2.0 Measuring Arm with features designed to enhance usability and expand worksession productivity. Among the new features of the portable arm are TESA Kinematic probes, a redesigned Ergonomic Wrist with an integrated USB digital camera, an innovative SpinGrip, a new Probe Holster and upgraded WiFi with a wireless range up to 200 feet away, even through walls.

Small details that make all the difference for the redesigned six- and seven-axes arms are high precision probing and optional scanning capabilities for mobile measurement, inspection, and reverse engineering on the shop floor or in the metrology lab. The new ROMER 4 foot Arm measures to ± .016mm (0.0006 in.) in the Volumetric Length Accuracy Test and is available in measuring ranges from 4 to 12 feet.

Unique to the new ROMER arm are advanced Kinematic Probes with TESA Swiss-made Bride CMM Class multiwire connectors, which combine carbon fiber construction with automatic probe recognition, according to the press release. The ‘plug and measure’ probes are automatically identified by the inspection software when an operator has to change a probe, and they also do not require recalibration. The probe can be recalibrated in the field when a new tip is required.

The 6-axes INFINITE 2.0 arm includes a redesigned Ergonomic Wrist that is smaller in size and incorporates more easily accessed selection buttons than previous versions. Also integrated into the design is a USB digital camera that can be used to document work set-ups along with a LED work light.

Usability features also include the new SpinGrip ushers, which are two infinite-rotating grips located on the arm at the elbow and forearm. The CMM is designed to minimize operator fatigue and achieve greater accuracy, with SpinGrips and ROMER’s Zero-G pneumatic counterbalance feature.

Probes can be stored in a new Probe Holster at the base of the arm. Included in the holster are slots to snap-in 3 probes and a change key. ROMER’s patented infinite rotation for inspection of hard-to-reach areas are a part of the INFINITE series arms, as well as NIST-traceable calibrated length standard provided with each arm to easily document system performance for ISO and vendor requirements.

Besides those obvious enhancements, the INFINITE 2.0 series, comprised of advanced fiber and aluminum construction, weighs less than 20 lbs. For travel purposes, the arm’s Lithium-Ion rechargeable battery and upgraded 802.11g WiFi offer cable-free operation. All of this fits into a rolling case that weighs only 50 lbs. and can be transported from one job site to another.
