Service Machine, a full-service manufacturer of production parts based in Loves Park, Ill., has selected MTI Systems' Costimator cost-estimating software in order to increase cost-estimating speed and enhance the accuracy of quotations.

Service Machines is best known for its Proto-Track milling machines that can cost-effectively make fixtures, prototype and repair parts.  Over the past few years, the company encountered challenges within their cost-estimating process.

Our estimating, prior to implementing Costimator, was based on the experience of our employees, said Mark Kneller, Service Machines president. The older ways worked well enough for years, but when some of those employees moved on, we found it incredibly challenging to pass their expertise on to new employees. The result was a time-consuming process that featured a lot of guesswork, so we found ourselves under and over estimating jobs. That caused us to lose some money on jobs we won and cost us winning jobs we lost because our pricing was off. Something had to change and now that weve found Costimator, it is helping to solve those problems.
