Siemens PLM Software Expands at Toyota

Toyota has expanded its vehicle safety information management system based on Teamcenter software from Siemens. The system was implemented in January 2013 as part of a comprehensive safety initiative.

The choice to initially use a safety information system is a result of the International Safety Organization publishing the ISO 26262 Functional Safety standard. This ruling defines functional safety for automotive equipment throughout electronic and electric systems.

Toyota stated that it adopted Teamcenter because of its widespread use in the global manufacturing industry and Siemens' open policy for product lifecycle management (PLM) technology. According to a company press release, the use of Teamcenter enhanced collaboration between multiple divisions and significantly improved traceability management.

“We are extremely proud to have earned the confidence of Toyota  for such an important global initiative,” said Chuck Grindstaff, president and CEO of Siemens PLM Software. “As the leading supplier of PLM software to the auto industry, Siemens takes its commitment to customer success very seriously. We are confident it will continue to provide the right information, in the right place, and at the right time, to help Toyota continue to make smart decisions throughout vehicle development.”
