Siemens PLM Software's New Solid Edge 2D Drafting for 3D

Siemens PLM Software (Plano, TX) announced the latest release of its free Solid Edge 2D Drafting software, available now for download in 10 languages, and continues to support customers transitioning from 2D to 3D.

Siemens PLM Software began offering its 2D Drafting product at no cost two years ago as a strategic move to ease the 2D to 3D transition for SMB customers. To date, the company says, 180,000 users have downloaded the software, 21 percent of whom say they have immediate plans to upgrade to 3D.

Solid Edge 2D Drafting is the standalone 2D CAD component of the Velocity Series portfolio. It provides a production-proven set of capabilities for creating 2D documentation, including drawing layout, diagramming, annotation, and dimensioning controls that automatically comply with drafting standards, such as ISO, ANSI, BSI, DIN, JIS, and UNI. Solid Edge 2D drafting is fully compatible with Solid Edge, the industry's first 3D history-free, feature-based CAD system.

Also, Siemens PLM Software announced that its 2D Dimensional Constraint Manager (DCM) Software is to be integrated into VX Corporation’s (Melbourne, FL) VX CAD/CAM to power parametric sketching capabilities. The D-Cubed 2D DCM was selected by VX on the basis of its quality, functionality, and performance, as well as the level of support and business stability associated with Siemens PLM Software. The new agreement builds upon the licensing by VX in 2002 of the D-Cubed 3D DCM to add parametric assembly modeling and motion simulation to VX CAD/CAM.
