SolidNEST, which will debut its new version at SolidWorks World 2008 (San Diego, CA; Jan. 20-23, 2008), is the SigmaTEK Systems (Cincinnati, OH) software integrated with SolidWorks 2008 to perform automatic nesting and NC programming for sheet-metal and profile-cutting machines.

The new version has been modernized to run with SolidWorks 2008 and Windows Vista. SolidNEST provides a seamless transition from a 3D model in SolidWorks to generating NC code for laser, plasma, oxyfuel, waterjet, router, and punching through a single SolidWorks interface. It is intended for users who are familiar with the SolidWorks design environment, to easily create layouts and generate NC programs inside the same environment, and eliminate the need to export the design components into a CAM software system for further processing.

SigmaTEK Systems also released SolidTUBE for programming rotary axis tube cutting machines last August, which combines the power of SigmaNEST with the Solid CAD environment for a seamless transition from 3D Solid CAD model to generating NC code for laser, plasma, and waterjet tube-cutting machines through a single Solid CAD interface. Providing an easy-to-use wizard-based interface for the Solid CAD user, SolidTUBE creates a framework for tube-cutting that can be loaded and executed in the Solid CAD environment. Other features include automatic detection of machinable features, automatic or manual lead-in/lead-out placement, and 3D simulation of the cutting process.
