Steinbichler Optotechnik GmbH has released the COMET 5 Eco, calling it a reduced-price complete solution for high-precision 3D digitization. The COMET 5 Eco is designed to meet the demands of industry--particularly product development and quality assurance.

According to the company, one notable feature is the measuring speed: not only are data acquisition times for digitization tasks six times shorter; with the current COMETplus software, the measuring speed is also four times faster thanks to reduced sensor resolution.

The projection technology developed for the COMET 5, has been combined with one-camera technology. The structure has been designed for stability and can also be used over a wide temperature range. Stability assists with automated measurement tasks, allowing the sensor to adapt to an industrial robot without, for example, considerable acceleration forces influencing the measuring precision. The COMET 5 Eco has been designed for mobile use and can be positioned on various handling systems.

Customers receive the system as a package, which, among other things, includes the INSPECTplus inspection software, the corresponding computer hardware and three-day training. The new version of the INSPECTplus software offers CAD interfaces for CAD systems such as Catia V4/V5, Pro/E, Unigraphics, SolidWorks and XT Parasolid as well as exchange formats such as IGES, VDA-FS, STEP and JtOpen.
