Aerospace and defense company Ursa Major demonstrates its investment in EOS metal additive manufacturing (AM) technology by acquiring three AMCM M 450-4 FLX systems. Ursa Major now operates 6 metal AM systems, enabling the company to scale hypersonics production at its production facility in Youngstown, OH.
“EOS and AMCM have been fantastic to work with—proven reliability, a responsive U.S. service team, and the largest deployed fleet of metal AM systems in the country,” says Nick Doucette, vice president of Operations at Ursa Major. “Beyond that, they bring an openness and engineering partnership. Together, we’re challenging legacy approaches to part qualification and process qualification, pushing the entire additive industry forward.”
Also, in collaboration with EOS and its AMCM (Additive Manufacturing Customized Machines) group, Ursa Major is leveraging EOS’ laser toolpath application programming interface with full EOS engineering support.
“Ursa Major’s work with EOS demonstrates the next era of additive manufacturing—where advanced users are empowered to innovate on their own terms. With EOS technology and the support of our Additive Minds team, this collaboration shows how OEM and user together can unlock progress at a pace never seen before,” says Greg Hayes, global senior vice president of Additive Minds, EOS.
AMCM M 450-4 FLX systems feature beam shaping technology, and follow the previous acquisitions of an AMCM M 290-1 FLX and 2 EOS M 400 systems. All equipment will be deployed to Ursa Major’s Youngstown facility.
“Ursa Major exemplifies what’s possible when a forward-thinking company leverages EOS technology to its fullest potential,” says Glynn Fletcher, president of EOS North America. “Their team’s deep technical fluency and bold vision inspire us. We’re proud to support
them as they shape the next decade of advanced manufacturing to the defense industry.”
