Additive Manufacturers Users Group

The Additive Manufacturing Users Group (AMUG) Conference is celebrating its 30th anniversary as the "for users, by users" event that focuses on AM users coming together to educate and support each other. It will take place April 8-12 in St. Louis, MO.

“We have a very strong presentation lineup, and perhaps the greatest topic-specific agenda of any prior conference," state Paul Bates, AMUG president, via a press release. "Our attendees are in for some fantastic information transfer. And that transfer will be started with two powerful keynote presentations. Our agenda committee selected Dominik Rietzel and Todd Grimm for the insights they will provide and the tone that they will set for the balance of the conference.”

Rietzel is head of BMW Group’s Additive Manufacturing Center (Non-Metal). His presentation "Additive Manufacturing on the Road. A Journey from Prototyping to Production" represents his experiences as BMW Group expanded its use of additive manufacturing from  prototyping. In recent years, BMW has invested in a number of AM startups, including Desktop Metal and Carbon, and uses 3D printing to enable mass customization.

Todd Grimm, president of T. A. Grimm & Associates, is AMUG’s AM industry advisor. In his eighth appearance as an AMUG keynote speaker, Grimm will present "Light at the End of the Tunnel." The presentation will include industry updates with Grimm's observations on what he sees as a shift in expectations and attitudes in the AM industry.

Other AMUG highlights include the Innovators Showcase, the Global AM Review and the AMUG Technical Competition. The Innovators Showcase brings AM leaders on stage for an open conversation. As DE reported, Fried Vancraen, founder and CEO of Materialise, is the 2018 guest of honor. The Global AM Review provides an international AM industry update. The AMUG Technical Competition allows users of additive manufacturing technologies to display their applications and finishing capabilities in a forum that will be judged by a panel of experts.

The conference will also include more than 200 presentations, workshops and hands-on training sessions, according to AMUG.
