Artec 3D Launches Artec Micro Professional Industrial Desktop 3D Scanner

Artec 3D announces the addition of Artec Micro, an automated, metrology-grade desktop 3D scanner, to its portfolio of 3D scanning solutions. Equipped with twin cameras, Artec Micro is the company’s most accurate 3D scanner to-date, the company reports. Complete with blue LED lights that are synchronized with the scanner’s dual-axis rotation system, Artec Micro creates a digital copy using minimal frames. With a single click, this fully-automated, industrial scanner helps create a high-resolution color 3D scan with a point accuracy of up to 10 microns, 1/10th the size of a single grain of table salt.   

Artec Micro offers a compact design. Users of all skill levels can learn to operate the technology in minutes, and initiating a scan takes only a few steps. Artec Micro requires minimal training, allowing almost anyone to place an object on the scanning plate and begin scanning immediately, the company says. After an object is placed on the circular scanning platform, the operator chooses from a variety of smart scanning paths and clicks to begin. The scanning process can be viewed in real time within Artec Studio. 

The Artec Micro scan data is processed in the Artec Studio, following the same workflow as Artec’s handheld scanners. Afterwards, the final model can be exported to popular CAD/CAM software, including SolidWorks, Control X, PolyWorks Inspector and Design X.

The scanner can be a useful tool for geometric and tolerance testing for quality inspection applications, the company notes. Artec Micro can also be used for mechanics and reverse engineering applications. Whether the intent is to fit legacy parts together or recreate an existing object, this desktop scanner can accelerate the design, prototype and production cycle by weeks. 

The ability to quickly and easily scan also works for non-engineering applications, where the end-user might not be an expert in handling professional-grade equipment.
