Autodesk has released its 2015 versions of AutoCAD and AutoCAD LT for Mac. The new software, according to the company, makes it easier for enterprises and students to create drawings and designs on the platform of their choice without losing functionality. Users can also share their work with Windows-based designers.

Key new features include:

  • Dynamic Blocks: Users now have the ability to create and edit dynamic blocks instead of needed to insert several static blocks to change shape, size or configuration.
  • Layer States: In this release, layer settings can now be saved as layer states, which store information such as color, linetype and additional information.
  • Data Linking: Data can be linked to a table in Microsoft Excel and the file will automatically update with external changes.
  • Quick Select: Objects are able to be selected by query criteria. A preview option is also available, so users can view what they are about to select before confirming it.
“The new releases of AutoCAD for Mac and AutoCAD LT for Mac are among the most significant updates in the products’ five-year history,” said Amy Bunszel, vice president of AutoCAD products at Autodesk. “This release has some rich new features but at its core, it is about eliminating dead ends that prevent people from being as effective as they can be when working together on design projects.”
