CD-adapco, a provider of CFD (computational fluid dynamics) software, has released STAR-CCM+ v10.06. This version, the company states, has Computational Rheology and several updates for user experience.

Computational Rheology, according to a company press release, expands STAR-CCM+'s scope of applications and targets problems with dominant viscous and viscoelastic effects. Types of issues that can be addressed include flow in static mixers, flow into containers, pumping slurries with heat generation and extrusions. The capability is build on the same finite element has Computational Solid Mechanics from v10.04.

"Computational Rheology allows our customers to find solutions for a whole new category of applications ranging from extrusions to polymer and material processing, and they will benefit from this new technology without requiring an additional license," said Jean-Claude Ercolanelli, senior vice president of Product Management, CD-adapco, "Of course, this new capability is accessible from their familiar and single STAR-CCM+ user interface, leveraging all other STAR-CCM+ features from the geometry to the solution."

Also added to STAR-CCM+ v10.06 is the ability to perform two-way fluid-structure coupling as well as compute thermal stresses and strains. For user experience, there is new interface for the Manual Surface Repair tool, helping users save time while performing manual repair of triangulated surfaces.
