DEM Solutions, a DE (discrete element) modeling software and services provider, has introduced an EDEM CFD Coupling Interface that enables coupling of EDEM with any proprietary, open source or in-house multi-phase computational fluid dynamics (CFD) solver to simulate fully coupled particle-fluid flow at the particle-scale.

DEM Solutions already enabled the application of coupled DEM-CFD simulation with the introduction in 2006 of coupled EDEM-Fluent simulation, employing a dedicated bi-directional coupling between EDEM and Ansys Fluent software. The new CFD Coupling Interface extends this capability to any CFD software with a multi-phase solver. It enables development of coupled DEM-CFD solutions. The CFD Coupling Interface can access the custom particle property functions via the EDEM API, providing a means of simulating any particle-fluid interaction including momentum, heat and mass transfer.
