Requirements writing can present a challenge for designers – poorly crafted requirements documents can lead to unnecessary design problems, extra re-work, and costly mistakes. Clear, accurate requirements can streamline design and save costs.

At the Oct. 26 virtual Design & Simulation Summit, Mark Davies, director and owner of HAAR Technology in the UK, will present Digitization and Robust Requirement Writing for Procurement Standardization in the Oil and Gas Sector, which provides an overview of the value of standardization and clarity in requirements and specifications, through the lens of new procurement standards in the oil and gas industry.

The Design & Simulation Summit, presented by Digital Engineering, kicks off at 1 pm Eastern on Oct. 26 with a keynote panel titled What Can AI Bring to Design for Additive Manufacturing? Following the keynote, attendees can select from four additional presentations on Design, Simulation, Digital Thread, and Engineering Workstations presented by leading end users, analysts and consultants.

According to the Design session description:

Historically, oil and gas operators ask suppliers to satisfy a different set of requirements for each order – often hundreds of pages long. Specifications can be different even for projects from the same company. The inefficient process impacts the entire design development process.

This presentation explores the key principles of JIP33, an initiative led by the International Association of Oil & Gas Producers (IOGP) and with support from the World Economic Forum, aimed at creating standardized procurement specifications.

JIP33 promotes standardized production, reduced inventories, and shorter lead times, while allowing users the flexibility to avoid modifications or additional requirements. Mark Davies shows how to write requirements, streamlined and aligned with ISO directives, INCOSE, EARS, and terminology libraries.
