Firestorm Labs, Inc., a company focused on additive manufacturing and drone production, has secured exclusive distribution rights from HP for its mobile Multi Jet Fusion (MJF) 3D printing technologies, FIrestorm reports. This partnership enables Firestorm to be a provider of HP's 3D printers in mobile and field-deployable environments.
Part of the agreement involves Firestorm's xCell system, a scalable manufacturing system contained in two expandable 20-ft. containers that can be deployed globally. The system can run on power generators, battery backup systems, or traditional power sources, which means it has application in remote locations, including forward operating bases and disaster zones. By integrating HP's 3D printing technology, xCell enables the production of components and unmanned aerial systems (UAS) in real time.
Firestorm aims to build a distributed global production network to leverage regional and localized supply chains to adapt to shortages, deliver products more quickly, and develop needs-based modifications to products for long lead and shipping times, the company reports.
"This agreement is a game-changer," says Ian Muceus, co-founder and chief technology officier of Firestorm. "For nearly a decade, we've trusted HP's technology to meet high-volume, high-quality demands of polymer additive manufacturing. Now, we're able to take that capability directly to the edge—military bases, disaster zones, and remote medical outposts—where time and logistics matter most. HP has built an incredibly mature ecosystem of equipment that supports the print process, and this collaboration is going to take everything to the next level."
HP's François Minec, vice president & global head of Sales and Business Development at HP Additive Manufacturing Solutions, adds, "This isn't just about best-in-class 3D printers. It's about empowering first responders, aid organizations, and military units with the ability to manufacture solutions wherever they are. We're excited to help build a future where distributed, on-demand production becomes the norm and makes a difference in people's lives."
The collaboration also signals an investment in workforce development, according to Firestorm. The company's ecosystem will require skilled technicians, engineers, and logistics experts to support demand for mobile manufacturing solutions.
Headquartered in San Diego, CA, Firestorm provides additive-manufactured unmanned aerial systems (UAS). Firestorm specializes in delivering scalable, modular, and rapidly deployable UAS solutions to support warfighters.
