MakerBot Retail Stores Offer New 3D Photo Booth

The new MakerBot 3D Photo Booth at MakerBot retail stores in New York, Boston, and Grenwich, Conn., takes 3D portraits and instantly creates a 3D digital file to share and 3D print. The MakerBot 3D Photo Booth captures the subject's head and shoulders in a 360-degree image, and within seconds creates a digital file that can then be 3D printed and made into a model and keepsake, the company says.

The MakerBot 3D Photo Booth was originally launched in the New York MakerBot Store last fall. Due to the popularity of the booth, the company says it has revamped the design and expanded it to the other two retail locations.

The new MakerBot 3D Photo Booth captures a full view of the head and shoulders, creating a full perspective of the subject's head, hair and facial expression. Ponytails and braids show up on the back of the head, and so do beards, mustaches and eyebrows on the front.

"We are really excited to unveil the new and improved MakerBot 3D Photo Booth," said Bre Pettis, CEO of MakerBot. "We think the MakerBot 3D Photo Booth is an amazing tool to capture and immortalize you right then, in an instant."

Guests upload the digital file directly to Thingiverse.com where they can access it later for their own 3D printing use, or order a 3D printed bust or statue directly from MakerBot to pick up in the store at a later date (or have it shipped directly to them).
