MathWorks has announced Release 2011b (R2011b) of its MATLAB and Simulink product families. New in this release is the introduction of Simulink Code Inspector, which assists with the review of source code generated from Simulink models. R2011b also updates 82 other products, including Polyspace embedded software verification products.

Features of MATLAB, R2011b include a Parallel Computing Toolbox which brings an increase in local workers from eight to twelve, an Image Processing Toolbox to assist with parallel block processing of large images, a Global Optimization Toolbox with a mixed integer nonlinear programming in genetic algorithm solver, and a Statistics Toolbox with both a lasso and elastic net for linear regression variable selection from high dimensional data sets.

Other features of the new MATLAB release include pricing and sensitivity calculations for sinking fund provisions, range bonds, and step up/down coupon bonds, a Data Acquisition Toolbox with measurement support for IEPE accelerometers, Buetooth serial communication support, a Bioinformatics Toolbox with a NGS Browser for viewing multiple tracks of sequence alignment data stored in SAM/BAM formats, and a Robust Control Toolbox to assist with automatic tuning of arbitrary controller architectures.

Features of the R2011b for Simulink include a project manager for library, model component, script, and MAT-file configuration management, a Simulink Coder that allows concurrent execution on multicore processors for host-based targets and xPC Target, and an Embedded Coder to provide coverage with LDRA Testbed and function execution profiling for SIL and PIL testing.

Other features of the new release for Simulink include auto scaling using derived signal ranges, frequency-domain constraints for model optimization, semiconductor device models with temperature dependent behavior and configurable thermal ports, discrete-event simulation and hybrid system modeling, and IEC Certification Kit: ISO 26262 support for Simulink Design Verifier and Simulink Verification and Validation.
