OpenBOM is partnering with Onshape to deliver an immersive and modern integrated behavior for customers using OpenBOM and Onshape helping them to manage design data, engineering BOM, change management and optimize downstream processes such as production planning and procurement.

The key element of OpenBOM for Onshape is to make a completely integrated experience for engineers and everyone else involved in the process of design, engineering, production and procurement.

OpenBOM For Onshape Enhancements

Here is the list of enhancements OpenBOM will be delivering:

Advanced Item Management. The focus on item management functionality will be to provide a new integrated interface for managing data from individual parts, assemblies directly in the Onshape Part Studio environment. A new OpenBOM Item Flyout will be added to help save data directly from Part Studio as well as from Assemblies to OpenBOM catalogs. The functions will be supporting manual mappings as well as automatic support of Onshape categories.

Automatic Part Number Generation. Part Numbers assignment can take a lot of time. Currently, OpenBOM supports manual part numbering directly from OpenBOM. New features introduced in OpenBOM Item flyout will allow making automatic Part Number assignments for multiple parts in Onshape Part Studio as well as for an entire Onshape Assembly.

Support for Onshape versions and release process. The last but very important enhancements will be to provide OpenBOM support to generate a Bill of Materials from Onshape versions and to provide integration with the Onshape release process.

OpenBOM Item Flyout for Onshape

OpenBOM offers many enhancements in Onshape integration, introducing new integrated behavior for item management, part number generation, and release management process. It includes a new OpenBOM Item Flyout as well as support for new functions.

If using OpenBOM with Onshape or looking for better support of Onshape based product development, the company says users can be in the list of first beta customers to experiment with new OpenBOM for Onshape processes.
