Senvol and SAEIn today's engineering process, data is everywhere. From materials information to production characteristics, data is an integral part of the design process. It's also a way that can help engineers decide what materials and processes are best suited for their additive manufacturing (AM) needs.

AM database provider Senvol has partnered with the Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE) to further develop standards and controls for material specifications through the SAE AMS-SM initiative.

SAE AMS-AM is a technical committee in SAE's Aerospace Materials Systems Group with the responsibility to develop and maintain aerospace material and process specifications and other SAE technical reports for additive manufacturing, including precursor material, additive processes, system requirements and post-build materials, pre-processing and post-processing, non-destructive testing and quality assurance, according to SAE. Dave Abbott of GE Aviation currently serves as committee chair.

Senvol's role will be to help with the Data Management Committee, establishing a system to validate that material specifications are controlled and traceable to statistically substantiated data. The company's president, Annie Wang, has been appointed as vice chair of this committee division.

“I am delighted to serve in this role for the SAE additive manufacturing committee. Data management is a key part of what we do at Senvol, and I am pleased to be able to apply our expertise to help drive the development of much-needed standards for the additive manufacturing industry,” said Wang.

Below you'll find a video previewing SAE's spotlight on AM in automotive design.
