Siemens and Germany-based TURN2X announce a global partnership aimed at advancing production of renewable natural gas via a technological collaboration. This partnership is in response to recognition of renewable natural gas as a critical component in achieving a sustainable energy transition, Siemens says.
TURN2X specializes in producing climate-neutral methane by combining green hydrogen with CO₂ captured from bioethanol plants, to create a renewable alternative to conventional natural gas. By joining forces with Siemens' advanced technology portfolio, the collaboration aims to scale up TURN2X's production capabilities.
“The collaboration with TURN2X is an example of how Siemens technologies can accelerate innovative solutions for clean energy,” says Axel Lorenz, CEO of Process Automation at Siemens. "We’re making an important contribution to the energy transition by helping advance promising concepts to the industrial level with our expertise and our portfolio in automation and digitalization.”
“As a growing company in the renewable natural gas sector, our greatest challenge is scaling production while maintaining operational excellence," says Dr. Dominik Schollenberger, chief technology officer at TURN2X. "Siemens' technology enables us to operate our plants remotely with unprecedented efficiency, which is crucial for our business model of securing long-term profitability from day one."
Under the agreement, Siemens will become the preferred supplier and technology partner for TURN2X and provide a suite of solutions from its Siemens Xcelerator portfolio. The partnership will focus on three technological areas: First, process optimization using advanced automation systems and instrumentation specifically tailored for TURN2X's green methane production process. Second, operational excellence thanks to digital twin technology and energy management solutions that enable remote plant operation with maximum efficiency. Third, future-readiness resulting from enhanced cybersecurity and standardized solution development that will accelerate the deployment of new facilities. This integrated approach will enable TURN2X to expand its production capacity.
