SYCODE (Panaji, India) announced STEP Import for AutoCAD, a STEP file import plug-in for AutoCAD 2000 through to 2008. The file format of STEP, which stands for the Standard for the Exchange of Product model data, has its roots in an ISO standard. The standard's objective is to provide a mechanism that can describe product data throughout the lifecycle of a product, independent from any particular system, thereby making it suitable not only for neutral file exchange, but also for implementing and sharing product databases and archiving. Almost all 3D solid modeling systems are capable of exporting 3D solid model data to the STEP file format. STEP Import for AutoCAD works with AutoCAD 2000, 2000i, 2002, 2004, 2005, 2006, 2007 and 2008. STEP Import for AutoCAD is priced at 195 Euro (US$280). For a trial download, go to SYCODE.
