Updated SpiTanIII Tantalum and Oxicap Simulation Software

Features more than 3,000 part numbers and two-capacitor comparison function.

AVX, a manufacturer of passive components and interconnect solutions, has released an updated version of its SpiTanIII tantalum and niobium oxide (Oxicap) capacitor simulation software. Featuring an expanded library of more than 3,000 part numbers and a new two-capacitor comparison function, it allows engineers to access the all of the basic characteristics and parameters for AVX's standard, polymer, wet, and conformally coated tantalum capacitors, in addition to its Oxicap capacitors.

"Updated on an annual basis to provide electronic design engineers with the most accurate technical information about and the most comprehensive simulation capabilities for tantalum and niobium oxide capacitors, the latest version of our SpiTanIII software features a broadly expanded library of part numbers; several new features, including our new two-capacitor comparison tool; and increased user friendliness, such as the new button specifically dedicated to generating S-parameters," said Tomas Zednicek, technical marketing manager at AVX.

Accessible characteristics in the latest version of the software include: capacitance, impedance, equivalent series resistance (ESR), dissipation factor (DF), ripple current, ripple voltage, and leakage current (DCL). Utilizing user input values for ambient temperature and (when evaluating DCL) derating levels, the program can accurately calculate, model, and compare capacitor performance simulations that reflect each designers' unique application parameters, allowing design engineers to evaluate how changes in temperature affect frequency characteristics. New features accessible by a single, dedicated button also enable users to generate S-parameters for designing circuits that require high frequency accuracy. Additionally, all graphs may be exported as image files or a list of data values viewable using spreadsheet software.
