Victrex plc has issued a new technical brochure outlining how VICTREX PEEK polymer can replace metal and other thermoplastics for gear applications. The complexity demanded by gear wheels is easily met with VICTREX PEEK, according to the brochure.

Proper functioning of gears depend on good resistance to friction and wear, and mechanical properties, durability and heat performance, resistance to aggressive media, and dimensional stability, which are characteristics of VICTREX PEEK. VICTREX PEEK polymer also is said to be superior in its exposure to high temperature and moisture.

Trends in the industry point toward providing higher performance and efficiencies while offering tools with reduced weight and miniaturization, as well as lower cost, which this polymer can provide. The company also maintains gear test rigs, designed to offer material data such as dynamic loading capabilities at higher speeds and loads. They also offer VICOTE Coatings and APTIV Film.
