Softland has released Backup4all 4.2, an update it includes full Unicode support and compatibility with 64-bit operating systems.

Backup4all allows users to create zip backup copies of single files or file folders of virtually any size, which allows them to access the backups with any zip-compatible utility. It also supports AES encryption so that users can secure their backups, and it allows users to password protect the Backup4all interface.

Backup4all 4.2 offers several improvements compared to the previous version:

  • Due to internal optimizations, Backup4all now backs up a large number of files and folders (in the order of millions) with moderate resource usage.
  • Added Unicode filename support so that files with non-standard characters can be easily backed up.
  • Backup4all is now compatible with 64-bit operating systems.
  • Environment variables can be used when defining new filters.
  • File versions can be compared.
  • Added a "select columns" option in the right-click menu of the versions section.
  • Added the option to select a new filetype for log files. The .txt type is accepted now too, given that .log files cannot be opened on Blackberry devices.
  • Added a "Remove from sources" option when right-clicking a file in Explore View.
