DEM Solutions, which provides DEM (discrete element modeling) software and services for the design and optimization of bulk particle handling and process equipment, has introduced an EDEM CFD Coupling Interface that enables coupling of EDEM with any proprietary, open source or in-house multi-phase CFD solver to simulate fully coupled particle-fluid flow at the particle-scale.

The new EDEM CFD Coupling Interface provides a bi-directional interface for coupling EDEM with most proprietary, open source or EDEM-Fluent simulation employing a dedicated bi-directional coupling between EDEM and Ansys Fluent software.

This co-simulation capability is now widely used in both industrial and academic R&D to model processes such as fluidised beds, pneumatic and hydrodynamic transport of solids, solid-liquid mixing, and many other particle-fluid systems.

The new CFD Coupling Interface extends this capability to any CFD software with a multi-phase solver. It enables development of coupled DEM-CFD solutions using the fastest and most extensible DEM simulation software on the market. The CFD Coupling Interface can access the custom particle property functions via the EDEM API providing a means of simulating any particle-fluid interaction including momentum, heat and mass transfer.
