The Dimension 3D Printing Group (Minneapolis, MN) announced that the submission deadline for its fifth annual“Extreme Redesign: The Ultimate 3D Printing Challenge,” contest is Feb. 1. Thecontest for students awards scholarships to winners worldwide. Student winnerswill be selected in April.

Contestantsare asked to submit their most useful, creative and innovative designs to thecontest. Student winners have the chance to win $2,500 or $1,000 scholarships,and teachers of the three first place student winners will also win a laptop foruse in the classroom.

Studentsmust identify an existing product and redesign it so that it includes newfunctionality or aesthetic qualities that improve on the original design. Oncethey have completed their design, students must send an .stl. file of theirExtreme Redesign, a completed submission form, and a 200-word description or30-second video demonstrating the value and benefit of the Extreme Redesign partvia Dimension's website.

A panelwill consist of independent judges from various industries. Winners will beselected in April 2009. Completecontest rules and submission information are available from Dimension 3D Printing Group.
