PTC launched Pro/ENGINEER Wildfire 5.0, a key component of the PTC Product Development System. New capabilities added to the company's flagship CAD solution, Pro/ENGINEER, extend the product to help customers eliminate common design challenges. Pro/ENGINEER Wildfire 5.0 is scheduled to be available during the fourth quarter of 2009.

Pro/ENGINEER Wildfire 5.0 will offer new capabilities plus more than 330 enhancements, including social product development, all designed to ease the process of making design changes, lessen the time to productivity, working with different types of CAD data and heterogeneous CAD data, in addition to identifying resources and maximizing collective knowledge.

The new release offers real-time, dynamic editing and design processes free of disruption to help users modify designs without traditional barriers. The time to productivity is accelerated up to ten times with this release, according to the company.

Graphical browsing, intuitive UI enhancements, streamlined tasks, and faster performance improve design efficiency and reduce time-to-market from concept through production. Users can create simplified sub-assemblies, place forms and create molded parts up to 80 percent faster, according to company materials. Weldments can be analyzed up to 10 times faster and users can create facing toolpaths five times faster.

The Pro/ENGINEER Advanced Rendering Extension includes high-performance rendering technology from mental images. This new integration incorporates ease of use, employing material presets and real-world illumination models.

Greater CAD interoperability in the release allows for increased native support for other CAD systems. Non-geometric data exchange helps users address the challenges of working with CAD data imported from multiple systems.

A new feature of Wildfire 5.0 is Pro/ENGINEER Spark Analysis Extension, which helps analyze and optimize electromechanical clearance and creepage properties of designs.

The social product development feature in Wildfire 5.0 will help users communicate better with the people and resources they need for a particular job. Finding the right people and resources at the right time. This feature is based on the seamless integration between Pro/ENGINEER and Windchill ProductPoint, which is built on Microsoft SharePoint social computing technologies.
