Luxtera (Carlsbad, CA), a fabless semiconductor company in the Silicon CMOS Photonics field, announced it was recognized by The Wall Street Journal 2008 Technology Innovation Awards (WSJ.com/Reports) for combining optics and electronic circuitry for high-speed data communications in a single CMOS chip.

The awards are presented each year by The Wall Street Journal to recognize breakthrough high-tech innovations globally.

By integrating optics and electronics on a monolithic CMOS chip, the company has delivered a low-cost optical interconnect solution to the communications market while improving reliability and performance.

Luxtera's product, Blazar, is an Optical Active Cable (shown here) offering 40Gbps bandwidth at 20Gbps cabling price points. This breakthrough cost reduction of optical interconnect will enable future applications in the high volume consumer electronic market.
