Mentor Graphics Releases Enhanced Flowmaster Tool

By DE Editors

November 3, 2014

Mentor Graphics has added several new capabilities to its Flowmaster platform for thermo-fluid simulation. The new release includes functionalities addressing needs of the automotive, aerospace, process/energy and gas turbine industries.

One of the most significant improvements is the new Functional Mock-up Interface (FMI), which enables Flowmaster models to be used in an open-source environment, allowing for greater collaboration. The Monte Carlo simulation functionality has been updated, providing elimination of small thermal variation effects in input values.

Also added is an enhanced secondary air solver and a natural circulation capability. This secondary air feature provides solver algorithms that improve the stability and accuracy of modeling flow through rotating parts, the company states. The natural circulation functionality simulates fluid circulation in a closed loop system.

A parametric studies capability now provides added flexibility in setting up design inputs. Furthermore, smart modeling is available for new design space creation.

“Mentor Graphics’ new Functional Mock-up Unit (FMU) model export capability is a hugely important development for system integrators who are looking for a standardized, zero-cost solution to tool coupling,” said Hassen Hadj-Amor, product manager at D2T. “The new Flowmaster tool provides users with a simple solution for the creation and export of network meta-models, ready for use in FMI environments, such as the xMOD simulation platform developed by IFP Energies Nouvelles.”
