The SME Education Foundation, in partnership with the Mitsubishi Electric America Foundation, have launched the Mitsubishi Electric America Foundation Scholarships for neurodiverse students. Made possible by a grant from the Mitsubishi Electric America Foundation, the foundation aims to remove financial barriers and create new career pathways for students with autism and other disabilities, to pursue paths in manufacturing and engineering.

“At the SME Education Foundation, we believe in empowering all young people to achieve their full potential. Providing equitable access to high-quality education and workforce opportunities is at the heart of what we do,” says Rob Luce, vice president of the SME Education Foundation. “With this generous gift in support of scholarships from the Mitsubishi Electric America Foundation, we’re ensuring neurodiverse students have financial resources and support they need to gain the skills and education necessary for successful careers in manufacturing.”

The Mitsubishi Electric America Foundation Scholarships for Neurodiverse Students will provide over $200,000 in financial assistance, reinforcing both organizations’ missions to expand access to new career opportunities. This initiative aligns with the Mitsubishi Electric America Foundation’s commitment to empowering young people with disabilities to lead productive and independent lives, the Foundation reports.

The SME Education Foundation is the philanthropic arm of SME. Each year, the Foundation’s scholarship program awards nearly $1 million dollars to hundreds of graduating high school seniors and college students across the country. With more than 60 distinct programs, the Foundation provides merit and need-based scholarships, issues renewing and one-time awards, and seeks applications from all eligible students, ensuring that students from all backgrounds have access to education and career opportunities. Since 2005, the Foundation has awarded $18 million to over 5,000 future industry leaders.
