Stratasys (Minneapolis,MN) announced that new material options for its direct digital manufacturing and prototyping machines are now available. Materials for the FDM 360mc, PC and PC-ABS and for the FDM 400mc ABSi and PC-ISO are now available.

With the new thermoplastic materials, users now can enjoy stronger, more flexible choices that can withstand higher temperatures. Parts can be ensured better performance as users will be able to match materials to necessary properties more accurately.

The material PC for the Stratasys FDM 360mc system has the qualities of improved accuracy, durability, and stability, for stronger prototypes or parts. Available in 0.007, 0.010, and 0.013 inch slice thicknesses (0.178 mm, 0.254 mm, and 0.330 mm), PC is ideal for design or manufacturing engineers in the automotive, aerospace and medical industries.

PC-ABS, commonly used in automotive, electronics and telecommunications applications, provides FDM 360mc machine users with the strength and heat-resistance characteristics of PC, while simultaneously adding the flexibility of ABS. The product is available in 0.005, 0.007, 0.010, and 0.013 inch slice thickness options (0.127 mm, 0.178 mm, 0.254 mm, and 0.330 mm).

For the FDM 400mc, PC-ISO gives users a tough polycarbonate material with the ability to be sterilized for medical device or food and pharmaceutical handling equipment applications. Available in 0.007, 0.010, and 0.013 inch slice thicknesses (0.178 mm, 0.254 mm, and 0.330 mm), PC-ISO offers high impact and flexural strength that can handle high temperatures. FDM 400mc users will also benefit from the addition of ABSi as a strong, translucent material useful in such applications as automotive lighting, and monitoring of liquid and particle flow. ABSi comes in clear, red and amber and can be built with 0.005, 0.007, 0.010, and 0.013 inch slice thicknesses (0.127 mm, 0.178 mm, 0.254 mm, and 0.330 mm).
