NVIDIA announced its first Turing architecture-based graphics processing units—the RTX Quadro Family of GPUs—in August, promising the RTX platform would allow photorealistic scenes to be rendered in real time, new AI-based capabilities and fluid interactivity with complex models and scenes.

“Quadro RTX marks the launch of a new era for the global computer graphics industry,” said Bob Pette, vice president of Professional Visualization at NVIDIA in a press statement announcing the release. “Users can now enjoy powerful capabilities that weren’t expected to be available for at least five more years. Designers and artists can interact in real time with their complex designs and visual effects in ray-traced photo-realistic detail. And film studios and production houses can now realize increased throughput with their rendering workloads, leading to significant time and cost savings.”

Now those promises are being fulfilled. PNY Technologies, NVIDIA's Quadro and GeForce channel partner throughout North America, Latin America, Europe, the Middle East, Africa and India, has announced that the Quadro RTX 8000 is now available. As the flagship NVIDIA Quadro RTX GPU, the RTX 8000 features 72 RT cores for real-time ray tracing and 576 Tensor Cores for AI enhanced workflows, resulting in over 130 TFLOPS of deep learning performance, according to PNY. The new RT Cores enable real-time ray tracing of objects and environments with physically accurate shadows, reflections, refractions and global illumination, according to the company. Turing Tensor Cores accelerate deep neural network training and inference, which NVIDIA says are critical to powering AI-enhanced rendering, products and services.

Visualize Complex Models

With 48GB of GDDR6 memory, scalable to 96GB with NVIDIA NVLink technology, the Quadro RTX 8000 is designed to work with the most memory-intensive workloads, such as creating complex models, building massive datasets, visualizing immense data science workloads, working with 8K movie content in real time and speeding up high-resolution final frame rendering. NVIDIA NVLink can be used to combine two GPUs with a high-speed link to scale memory capacity and drive higher performance with up to 100GB/s of data transfer.

The NVIDIA Quadro RTX 8000's new Turing Streaming Multiprocessor architecture features 4,608 CUDA cores, delivering up to 16 trillion floating point operations in parallel with 16 trillion integer operations per second to accelerate complex simulation of real-world physics.

In addition to the NVIDIA Quadro RTX 8000's four display ports, a separate NVIDIA Quadro Sync II board works with the RTX 8000 to synchronize up to four RTX 8000 boards per card for 16 synchronized displays per Sync II. With two Sync II cards per system, up to eight NVIDIA Quadro RTX 8000 GPUs per chassis could drive a total of 32 synchronized displays.

The RTX 8000 also supports USB Type-C and VirtualLink, an open-industry standard being developed to meet the power, display and bandwidth demands of next-generation virtual reality headsets through a single USB-C connector. On the software side, advanced programmable shading technologies improve the performance of complex visual effects and graphics-intensive experiences. New and enhanced technologies improve performance of VR applications, including Variable Rate Shading, Multi-View Rendering and VRWorks Audio.

The makers of the world’s most widely used design and creative applications are working with NVIDIA to bring Quadro RTX capabilities to customers. Developers can access Quadro RTX features through the new NVIDIA RTX, a graphics platform that includes application programming interfaces for ray tracing, AI, rasterization and simulation plus support for NVIDIA MDL (Material Definition Language) materials and Pixar USD (Universal Scene Description) asset interchange. Independent software vendors, such as Altair, ANSYS, Autodesk, Chaos Group, Dassault Systèmes, Siemens PLM Software and more have already announced work on RTX-driven enhancements to their applications.
