QLogic Corp. (Aliso Viejo, CA), a supplier of high performance network infrastructure solutions, announced at Storage Networking World the QLogic SANbox 5800V Series, the industry's first stackable 8Gb Fibre Channel switch. The new switch incorporates technologies that deliver a new class of Fibre Channel SAN with unmatched levels of performance at up to 50 percent lower cost than comparatively-configured competitive offerings.

The SANbox 5800V Series eliminates the cost of building SANs by using storage and server switch ports for inter-switch links. The SANbox 5800 Series features the industry's first 20Gb Fibre Channel ports as an innovative stack-interconnect — each port can handle the inter-switch traffic of up to three 8Gb links running at full speed. The SANbox 5800V Series also features 100Gb Virtual Lanes, a game-changing technology that automatically pools multiple stack-interconnects to form a single 100Gb virtual lane between stackable switches. SANbox 5800V Series configurations start at eight ports and scale cost-effectively to configurations with 120 ports.

Also at Storage Networking World, QLogic Corp. announced that Sun Microsystems (Santa Clara, CA) is offering a stackable 8Gb Fibre Channel switch based on QLogic technology and branded by Sun. The 20Gb Fibre Channel technology enables SAN administrators to eliminate the cost and complexity of using server and storage ports on a switch for inter-switch links (ISLs). Backwards-compatible with 2Gb and 4Gb Fibre Channel, the Sun FC Switch Model 5802 also allows SAN administrators to migrate cost-effectively to leading 8Gb technology while adapting to changing performance demands throughout the transition.

And last, QLogic Corp. introduced the QLogic 6200 Series of intelligent storage routers at Storage Networking World, the industry's first 10GbE iSCSI-to-8Gb Fibre Channel routers. Supporting new high bandwidth 10Gb Ethernet and 8Gb Fibre Channel, the enterprise-class QLogic 6200 intelligent Storage Router offers data center managers 10 times more capacity than the previous generation of 1Gb iSCSI routers for connecting low-cost servers to Fibre Channel storage and replicating data over a wide area network (WAN).
