Rand Worldwide has acquired certain assets of Charlottesville, Va.-based Informative Design Partners (IDP). IDP delivers computational fluid dynamics (CFD) analysis consulting and thermal simulation services.

"This acquisition follows on the heels of the recent Simulation Specialization designation that we received from Autodesk and allows us to offer a more comprehensive set of simulation services to our customers," said Marc Dulude, chief executive officer of Rand Worldwide. "We see tremendous opportunity to better serve not only our manufacturing clients who most commonly leverage the benefits of CFD services, but we also expect our clients in the architecture, engineering and construction markets to take advantage of the broader expertise that the IDP team brings to Rand Worldwide."

"Having been involved in numerous CFD purchases, implementations and services engagements, we observed that our clients needed collaborative consulting, not just support on how to use the tools, and IDP was created to meet that need," said Jason Pfeiffer, former president of IDP. "We believe there is a natural fit to help the customers of Rand Worldwide recognize the full potential of simulation through our extensive CFD expertise, and we are excited to be a part of that."
