MarkForged has released its Mark One 3D printer, which is designed to print composite materials. According to the company, users can print parts, tooling and fixtures with a higher strength-to-weight ratio than 6061-T6 Aluminum.

The printer debuted at SolidWorks World 2014 in San Diego as a working prototype. Company president Gregory mark co-owns Aeromotions, which builds carbon fiber racecar wings and spoilers. According to reports, Mark designed the printer to help reduce the time and expense associated with making carbon fiber auto parts.

The printer can product parts in carbon fiber, fiberglass, nylon and PLA. It has an anodized aluminum unibody and a translucent printing bed. It measures 22.6 in. by 14.2 in. by 12.7 in. It supports Mac OS 10.7 Lion, Win XP, and Linux, as well as WiFi, USB, and SD Card connections.
