With the temperatures cooling and kids heading back to school, we thought it would be a good idea in this issue to look at some of the trends in engineering education that are shaping the next-generation of designers.
But we also want to encourage current designers to check out our upcoming Design & Simulation Summit on Oct. 30. This virtual event is in its fifth year, and while we are still finalizing the agenda, we already have some great sessions lined up.
The event kicks off with a live keynote presentation titled, “AI is My Copilot: Are AI-Powered Tools Reliable Enough for Design and Simulation Workflows?” Led by Senior Editor Kenneth Wong, our expert panelists discuss the strengths and weaknesses of AI-powered features in design and simulation software. So far, the panel includes Jan Paul Stein, a partner at McKinsey, and Sandeepak Natu of CIMdata.
After the keynote, virtual attendees can choose to attend any of our four concurrent track sessions. Our Digital Twin session this year will be led by Madhav Gupta, Digital Twin Engineer at Weber Food Technology, who will discuss how digital twins can be used in industrial automation, with real-world examples.
For the Engineering Computing track, we welcome Craig Hamill, who leads the Research, Innovation, and Technology (RIT) team at UL Research Institutes. Hamill will explain how ULRI leverages high-performance computing (HPC) to accelerate its simulation workflows.
Professor Carmen Torres-Sanchez of Loughborough University in England will discuss her research around design, manufacture and validation of multifunctional materials with tailored properties, specifically for additive manufacturing workflows.
I hope you can join us on Oct. 30. The event kicks off at noon Eastern time.
More speakers will be announced closer to the event. You can register here.
