MakerBot has launched the MakerBot Developer Program, an initiative that allows app and game developers to include 3D printing capabilities in desktop, mobile, tablet and console-based apps and games. The program will provide access to tools and resources to use the Replicator 3D Printing Platform for iOS, Android, Web and more.

Developers can create games, 3D designs, characters, educational content and a wide variety of 3D printable content.

Along with the program, MakerBot also released Modio, the first MakerBot-Ready App, which allows users to merge digital and analog play to create posable figures with a collection of interchangeable parts, templates and custom elements. It also includes a printing visualization interface so users can determine the size and layout off all the parts on the printer's build plate.

“We have been approached by developers for a long time who have tremendous ideas that they want to bring to life with 3D printing capabilities,” said Bre Pettis, CEO of MakerBot. “The MakerBot Developer Program finally enables developers to create apps that are designed to work seamlessly with our MakerBot Replicator Desktop 3D Printers and live within the MakerBot 3D Ecosystem certified as MakerBot-Ready Apps. It will be very exciting to see what develops.”
