Tecplot, Inc. (Bellevue, WA) released upgrades for Tecplot 360 2008 and Tecplot Focus 2008 that help users create images and plots more quickly, display time and date on any axis, and generate enhanced non-Flash animations for PowerPoint.

Tecplot 360 2008 R2 combines vital engineering plotting and advanced data visualization into one tool. Upgrade enhancements for the Release 2 (R2) version of Tecplot 360 2008 include fewer clicks that translate into faster results with less work. Smarter use of CFD metadata yields useful plots with up to 90 percent fewer mouse clicks after loading data.

It can display time and dates on any axis. Users now can create plots with absolute or elapsed times on any axis. Plus it includes improved animations for Microsoft PowerPoint. Tecplot 360 includes true-color AVI export that Microsoft PowerPoint 2003 and 2007 can read without third-party plug-ins or system modifications.

Tecplot 360 2008 R2 is available for Windows Vista and XP (32- and 64-bit), Mac OS X, Linux (32- and 64-bit), and Unix. Annual license pricing starts at $3,200. Tecplot 360 2008 users with current SMS agreements can upgrade to R2 at no cost.

Tecplot Focus 2008 R2 helps users quickly plot, analyze, and present engineering and test data. Upgrade enhancements include display of time and dates on any axis, where users can create plots with absolute or elapsed times on any axis.

Processing is faster for larger datasets — users can take advantage of multiple processors for faster computation (up to 64 CPUs). Improvements extend Focus' capabilities to handle more than 100,000 variables, mappings, and data zones.

Tecplot Focus 2008 R2 is available for Windows Vista and XP (32- and 64-bit), Mac OS X, and Linux (34- and 62-bit). Pricing starts at $1,500 for a single-user perpetual license. Tecplot Focus 2008 users with current SMS agreements can upgrade to R2 at no cost.
