Autodesk has joined a select few companies worldwide in receiving the International Organization for Standards (ISO) certification for Autodesk's artificial intelligence (AI) management system (AIMS) supporting the Autodesk AI/ML Portal (AMP), its central platform for developing customer-facing AI products and features.

The certification is the reportedly one of the first international standards for AI management systems. It provides a framework for organizations to develop, deploy, and monitor AI technologies responsibly.

ISO 42001 standard requires rigorous controls across risk management, accountability structures, and lifecycle oversight from design to deployment. It also mandates continuous monitoring and improvement of AI systems.

Autodesk’s Trusted AI program

Autodesk explains that Earning ISO 42001 is a major milestone in its broader Trusted AI program, which guides how the company develops and governs AI across Autodesk.

The company explains that its approach is grounded in five core principles: responsibility, transparency, accountability, reliability, and safety & security. For instance, Autodesk conducts risk assessments before deploying AI features and tests for fairness and unintended bias in its models. Autodesk also implements human-in-the-loop systems where needed and regularly reviews AI systems to ensure they’re working as intended.
