PTC acquired CloudMilling, a cloud-native computer-aided manufacturing (CAM) solution. The acquisition will bring CAM functionality to PTC's software-as-a-service Onshape product development platform, which offers CAD, product data management, real-time calibration and business analytics functions.

CloudMilling's features include 2- and 5-axis tool paths, a fully integrated tool library, real-time visualization capabilities and workspaces that can simultaneously handle multiple parts. The CAM functionality is expected to be available in Onshape in early 2023.

"Delivering CAM functionality as part of Onshape will help our customers create even more as they demonstrate what's possible with cloud-native product development," says David Katzman, senior vice president of Onshape, in PTC's announcement of the acquisition. "CloudMilling has developed a solution that offers the high-quality cloud experience and benefits that our Onshape customers expect."

Michael Johnson, CEO, chief architect and co-founder of CloudMilling, adds: "We share the Onshape team's vision for a cloud and mobile-first world for product development. We're proud to have introduce the industry's only cloud-native CAM solution and we look forward to expanding its access and use as part of Onshape."
