Computer-aided engineering (CAE) describes utilization of a computer and its software for the purposes of designing, analyzing and generating products and methods. Broadly defined, CAE incorporates both CAD (computer-aided design) and CAM (computer-aided manufacturing) in order to assist in engineering analysis processes. More specifically, the term is often used only to describe software used to simulate and analyze product, assembly and system designs.
